Joseph Aubry (1801-1867) was a talented luthier coming from a family of luthiers since all his brothers were also luthiers. We find traces of active luthiers, named Aubry, from 1735 in Mirecourt. And it was in 1824 that Joseph Aubry married a young woman named Maire. It is therefore after this date that the “Aubry Maire” iron mark will appear. Aubry Maire was an important violin-making workshop, organized almost like a factory, already employing several journeymen at the time. Thus, we will find the Aubry Maire brand in a multitude of guitars, particularly careful, both in the choice of woods, as well as in the construction and their mostly very finely decorated finishes. Note in particular the particular decoration produced by this workshop and which is not found among other guitar makers: a net made up of very small diamonds of alternating mother-of-pearl and ebony, bordered by two fine ebony fillets. Here for sale is a sublime romantic guitar made by Aubry Maire around the 1830s.
