1968 Gibson J200 Cherry Burst in excellent condition. Gibson began production of this model in 1937 as their top-of-the-line flat-top acoustic guitar, originally called the Super Jumbo, before changing the name in 1939 to the Super Jumbo 200. The SJ-200 was named for its super-wide 16 7/8-inch flat-top body, with a double-braced red spruce top, rosewood back and sides, and a sunburst finish. It was manufactured at Gibson's Kalamazoo, Michigan factory. And it was in 1947 that the tonewoods used for the guitar changed to maple back and sides. Then, in 1955 Gibson changed the name to the J-200. Many artists have played and/or composed on Gibson J-200s, from Elvis Presley and his 1956 J-200N. Bob Dylan, whose J-200 is featured on the cover of his album Nashville Sky, released on April 9, 1969. George Harrison of the Beatles is said to have composed a lot with his J-200. Pete Townshend of the Who wrote "Pinball Wizard" on his J-200, which was featured on most of his recordings starting with the Who's 1969 album Tommy. "I picked it out of about five at Manny's in New York in 1968," Townshend told Gibson.com. "It had a clear sound and an easy neck. It wasn't until later that I discovered how well the J-200 records when you play it loud." We can also mention Jimmy Page who recorded most of Led Zeppelin's acoustic tracks on his J-200. Finally, we will stop to mention Chris Martin and his famous J-200 used to record "Til Kingdom Come" in 2005. We could also mention Mark Knopfler, The Everly Brothers and many others. In fact, if this guitar known to be one of the most iconic has been used so much by artists, it is indeed for its quality that they will have all recognized and sublimated in their own way. Thus, here for sale is a superb Gibson J-200 Cherry Burst from 1968, fully intact with its original case. Testifying to the great years of this guitar, in a sublime state of preservation and play, this Gibson J-200 will please collectors as much as guitarists who would have as much pleasure in looking at it, as in playing it or at least listening to it sound.
